Existing nursing home with 52 rooms. Planning permission was obtained to add 26 ensuite wetroom bedrooms including a 16 bed secure dementia unit, new 13 person lift, day rooms, nurses stations, assisted bathrooms, laundry and kitchen extensions, new decked external areas and ancillary facilities.
The design was for the extension of an existing single storey wing to the home, on the ground floor and then to build a new second floor on the newly extended ground floor.
The nursing home had to remain open and fully operational during the works with close regard to the type of occupier within the building.
Groundworks included concrete foundations with Tbeam and block floor. Steel frame for the extension with cavity walls to the ground floor, timber framed tile hanging to the first floor. New trussed rafter roof with additional pitched canopy, tiled to match existing roof coverings.
All internal wood finishes were ash veneer including a custom built counter for the nurse station.
All ground floor rooms have level access to outside areas and landscaping works were undertaken to enhance the area.
Due to the sloping nature of the site, a steel frame had to be installed for the external decked area and glazed panels designed to ensure an anti-climb boundary for the dementia unit external seated area.
